Taipei Medical University Cultivates the First Batch of Biodesign Seed Teachers
Recently, Taipei Medical University successfully completed a one-semester Biodesign clinical needs insight and innovative application course, with 5 clinical medicine and engineering background teachers selected as the first batch of Biodesign seed teachers.
This course was co-organized by Taipei Medical University Biodesign Center, College of Biomedical Engineering and Shuang Ho Hospital Research Department. The course invited Professor Chien-Hua Tseng, Executive Director of the Biodesign Center, to be the main instructor. After receiving training at Stanford University Biodesign in January this year, Professor Tseng replicated the Biodesign curriculum one-on-one to plan out this innovative course.
After intensive training for one semester, the 5 selected seed teachers include: Director Zhao Pinsheng of Otolaryngology Department at Shuang Ho Hospital, attending physician Wu Cheng-jung of Otolaryngology Department, Director of Nursing Chen Ya-ju at Nursing Home, Professor Peng Chih-wei, Chair of Biomedical Engineering at Taipei Medical University, and Dr. Lin Ming-jen from Taipei Medical University Hospital.
Through the cultivation of this Biodesign course, the seed teachers will apply the Biodesign concepts in clinical practice, starting from medical needs to carry out innovative product design and development of solutions. In the future, the Biodesign Center will continue to provide guidance to assist seed teachers in implementing Biodesign.
The cultivation of this batch of seed teachers has yielded the first fruits of Biodesign within the Taipei Medical University system. Taipei Medical University hopes to collaborate with its affiliated hospital, Wan Fang Hospital, and Shuang Ho Hospital to foster more Biodesign seed teachers, expand its influence, and enable more medical and engineering talents to engage in innovative designs that solve clinical needs and patient problems.
